Feature Request (Desktop): Breadcrumbs

Feature Request (Desktop): Breadcrumbs

Hi, it would be great to have breadcrumbs (to parent tasks) for hoisted tasks on the desktop version like there is in the mobile version!

As with the mobile version, it would make it much easier to see where you are in a list at a glance.

It would also make it easier to navigate up to a specific parent level, as unhoisting a task currently takes you back to the root level, which can be a bit disorienting when trying to finding the current task in a big list (some of my lists have 10K+ tasks).

Thanks!

  1. Doesn't that already work when you use the "..." on the top (left)?

  2. Breadcrumbs on the mobile version are visible whenever a task is hoisted, providing a quick reference to where you are in a list at a glance without having to navigate to and click a button.

Breadcrumbs are also on a single line, rather than staggered like the parent tasks are when clicking the "..." button, saving screen real estate.

  3. I see what you mean. For me, the "..." feels just right. When focussing, I don't want to see more than the task I am focussing on. Espessially when presenting to an audience. And if I want to see more, the "..." are just a few keystrokes away and the levels can be navigated using the up/down keys. (What would speed me up are keyboard shortcuts for structural/tree navigation.)

  4. Yep, structural keyboard navigation (up one level, etc.) is something I've requested in the past.  Unfortunately, I don't think there was any progress on that one :(

  5. Regarding structural navigation. One operation is moving up one level. Is there anything else you miss?

  6. Aside from shifting the focused/hoisted view up one level at a time, it would also be nice to move the selection "cursor" (i.e. the highlighted task) up one level with a single keystroke.

Pressing the left arrow key repeatedly will allow you to move the cursor up to the parent level, but it takes multiple keypresses (requiring more time to navigate the list via keyboard) and it also collapses every task it touches in the process.

  7. Sol M Thanks. Have you seen any other tools where such navigation was implemented? The current navigation in Checkvist is implemented using principles from Mac Finder/Windows Explorer. So I'd be interested to see alternatives with richer navigation.

  9. Ralf Hauber Thanks a lot, this is a great overview! I think we'll convert it to a list so it would be possible to better track progress.
