Hello friends

Hello friends,

We're working on the next update of Checkvist, and one of the changes there is a rework of copy/paste features. In the essence, we're now using desktop's clipboard to keep the copied data.

This enables a couple of tricks:
- you can paste plain text from the clipboard as a list item without going into 'editing' mode
- you can paste images from the clipboard as attachments with a simple Ctrl+V on a selected list item (if you're PRO)

I'd appreciate if you take a look how it works on https://beta.checkvist.com and comment here if you notice any glitches.

As a side note, we've created a simple list with beta.checkvist.com changeLog. Not sure if it will last, it is a kind of experiment: https://checkvist.com/p/71313

Thanks :-)

  1. Great - I often try to paste an image from the clipboard just out of habit with desktop apps. Now it will work!

I notice that there seems to be no undo support with these actions. If feasible undo would be useful here -- it's very easy to paste something by accident, or misremember what you last had on the clipboard.

  2. Crispin Bennett Thanks for looking into this! We have not implemented undo because it is simple to undo added data by simply deleting it (given that the selection is kept). It is quite the same as if you add text or attachments without the clipboard - there is no undo either. Paste does not clean the clipboard, so it is not a destructive operation.
    Would you agree?

  3. Yes perhaps so. I had just tried the new paste operations and, as it was just test data, reached automatically for undo, so it jumped out at me that it wasn't there. On reflection I think you're right that it's not needed.
Anyway I like the change to copy/paste.

  4. Kirill Maximov, it does not seem to be functioning for me. I opened a new list in the beta, tried the described enhancements.

    - you can paste plain text from the clipboard as a list item without going into 'editing' mode

    • For this I presume you can have the focus on an existing item, then use Crtl+V? If I right click, paste is not even an option. Maybe I misunderstand how to do this.

    - you can paste images from the clipboard as attachments with a simple Ctrl+V on a selected list item (if you're PRO)

    • This also does not seem to work, and again, paste is not an option if I right click. I did simply try Ctrl+V, with no obvious result. Yes, I have a PRO account.

This is on Windows 10, Chrome browser.

  5. Jim McGuire Thanks for trying! Could it be that the page where you try this have not been refreshed? Please try force I just double-checked it on my Windows 10/Chrome - worked. Please try refreshing the Checkvist page with keeping Shift key to be sure.

There is no 'Paste' option in the context popup menu, but Ctrl+V shortcut worked.

    How did I try this:
    - select text with mouse in some app
    - press Ctrl+C
    - go to Checkvist, set selection on an item
    - press Ctrl+V

Hope it will work this time.
    Thanks,

  6. Kirill Maximov, thanks for your always-great support. I did the refresh, to no avail. BUT, I think that I have found the problem.

One of my Chrome extensions appears to be interfering. The extension, "Don't F*ck with Paste" seems to be the problem. It's intended to prevent sites from interfering with copy/paste activity, specifically with respect to passwords and the like. Once disabled, your new functionality works great! I tried re-enabling the extension, and it does break your new features.

I will just live without this extension, since I really like this new Checkvist capability.

  7. Hi Kirill Maximov

Have given this a quick whirl and I love it! :)

Text and image paste work great in Chrome, text works in Opera (don't ask ... I like it for some reason) but image paste shows a progress bar (see attached) and then the JS freezes and after refresh there's no sign of the image.

Are there any drawbacks to these changes?

    Thanks,

    Mark

P.S. the changeLog is fab too

  8. Hello Mark Dickens, thanks for the feedback! I tried to reproduce the problem in Opera, but it worked for me. Do you see any errors in the Javascript console?
Also, does it work if you attach a file with 'at' shortcut instead of drag-n-drop?

    Thanks again :)

  9. Ho Kirill Maximov

I have just tried paste image again in Opera and it is working fine now.

    One of those transient problems...

Is there any other testing you'd like us to do?

If not please can we have this soon ? :)

    Thanks,

    Mark

  10. > Is there any other testing you'd like us to do?

    Oh, thanks for asking :)

If you have a spare minute, please also take a look at:

    - attachments copy/paste
    - attachments cut/paste

Not a big addition, but still :)
