My latest Chrome (ver.

My latest Chrome (ver. 57.0.2987.133) somehow does not show italic text formatting (about 2 or 3 months ago, it displayed italics, but now even if I change the text format to italic, it doesn't show up on the latest Chrome). I have checked the same text on Firefox and found that Firefox can show italics properly. What can I do to fix this on Chrome?

  1. Update: the problem with italics on Chrome seems to occur only for Japanese fonts. The alphabets are all right.

  2. I now understand that this is due to the font setups. The latest chrome's default font for Japanese is Meyryo, which I found to have the standard, regular fonts as italic fonts. If you change the font setup at chrome://settings/fonts, where you change the font setting of "Sans Serif" to, for example, Yu Gothic UI, you can see the italicized/slanted Japanese fonts.
