Hello friends and happy new year to you all!
Hello friends and happy new year to you all!
Among many other issues we are going to address, there's a couple of things we'd like to improve on the Due view.
Precisely, we are going to
- make list items actionable (edit, tag, etc, etc)
- show the list item hierarchy better, and
- provide more Due time interval views.
Could you please help us with the last one?
Here's a quick idea illustration - customizable Due tabs. And the question is, what would be your own set of views? How would you prefer to slice your due tasks?
Thanks!
(A similar design would go into the mobile view. So you'll be seeing something like this on your mobile screen, too.)
I think these parameters make sense, along with the ability to enter a custom date range.
ReplyDeleteWhat I miss is a Due view which mix in a descending date order all the due tasks of all the lists... and not display as now, list by list, the due tasks of each list
ReplyDeleteSo a "Due Dates All Lists" (shortcut dda).
Philippe Demoulin I guess you want it like the "Repeating tasks" view. An option to choose whether to view the tasks by list or not seems a good idea.
ReplyDeleteThinking more generally: The list-by-list view adds one level of hierarchy. It would be nice to have a "flattened" view of lists, where "flatten x levels" would hide the first x levels. The flattened view would need to be sorted.
Sasha Maximova here is how I would prefer to slice/view tasks with due dates:
ReplyDeleteWhat you propose already covers a lot. In your list of future slices, "next year" is missing, which is handy at least in December.
You focus on the future, but when due dates are not met (which some people say it happens), the slices should also go into the past. At least "yesterday", but also "past week".
Speaking of weeks: I often organize by week, then it would be useful to have a slice for "rest of this week" (which would be "this week" excluding everything until today) and "overdue this week" (which would show this week until yesterday).
And whatever the slice is that is used to show my tasks, I want an option to view everything before (earlier) and everything after (later).
And there should be an option to sort by dates ascending or descending.
Guys, thanks a lot for the comments and ideas! Seems we're on a right path :)
ReplyDeleteResulting amendments to the plans:
1) There'll be an option 'Group by list', in the 'Options' menu. If you un-select it, you'll get a flat list of tasks.
2) 'Sort by' option with ability to sort by due (ascending/descending), and priority (at least).
3) 'Next year' as a pre-configured date range option
Questions:
- +Brian Tait, Custom date range: could you please give me an example? Are you talking about relative date range - like 'next 2 weeks' or absolute, like 'from Jan 10 to Jan 24, 2016'? Because the second one seems rather short-lived, no?
- +Ralf Hauber, regarding the 'past tasks': when the due dates are not met - alas! we'll show them under 'Due now', with the overdue mark. You'll be able to remove 'Overdue' tasks from the 'Now' view and choose to see a separate 'Overdue' tab instead. There you'll have all your incomplete tasks from the past, sorted either by date or by priority. Will it do?
We start to think that 'Hide completed tasks' option will be also useful on the Due screen. Thus you'll have a sort of 'Done this week' report.
And thanks again! It's a pleasure to work for you :)
Sasha Maximova regarding the 'past tasks': I guess it will do. Though my 'Overdue' tab will show me more than I want to be aware of. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnother sorting idea for repeating tasks: by repeat period. Currently it's not so easy to find yearly tasks, for instance. (For maintenance/review purposes.)
Ralf Hauber Great! I like the repeating screen sorting idea very much. Indeed, "Tai-chi in the morning" is very much different from 'submit tax docs'. And if we make list grouping optional, it will be even more helpful. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSasha Maximova Related to the due view: A due filter for "yesterday" (or Friday, if it's Monday) is propably the thing I miss most when quickly checking leftovers. Also when working past midnight and the date changes. An overdue filter similar to "changed: 1h/1d/1w" would be handy in such a case.
ReplyDeleteHi, I just wanted to revive this thread to mention that it helped us a lot to prioritise features for our latest update of Checkvist: blog.checkvist.com - Editable Due and Search results screens, plus performance boost
ReplyDeleteNot everything mentioned here was implemented, there is always some room for improvement. :)
Thank you all for your comments!
