I'm getting started with Checkvist, and wondering if I should create many lists or just make one big list. I will only be using these lists on my own and not collaborating.

Will filtering and searching be more powerful if everything is in one list? On the other hand, if I have a list with thousands of items will it bog down?

I doubt there is a right or wrong answer. I'm just curious to hear your opinions.

  1. There are many different approaches.   I started with two lists... one for work-related issues, and one for personal items.  Slowly, other less-frequently needed lists have crept in. A separate shopping list, for example.  This seems to be working well.

I am especially fond of the shortcut which allows one to easily move an item to a different list [mm].

Let us know how your Checkvist life develops. Good luck.

  2. Same thing here. Start simple and experiment with more complicated. Think of changes as experiments and feel free to make them and back them out. Always think to yourself, knowing what I know today would the plan or structure be this way? If it's not, then change it! that's what's awesome about checkvist, is it's more like excel for tasks. You get the structure that works for you.

  3. Hi Bryan Roach , welcome on-board!

Having >~ 2000 items in one list may slow things down, we haven't improved the performance in such case yet.

If you have multiple lists - there is a cross-list search, which is available on double-enter in the search field (but it is slower than in-place filtering).

  4. Thank you for these replies! I think I will start with two main lists for "Work Tasks" and "Personal Tasks". Later on, I can always move large projects to their own lists if desired.

I will also create a few lists for keeping notes on various topics. Today I created one called "Checkvist Meta" and saved links to these G+ pages.

That discussion about patterns people use was really helpful. It's cool to know I can apply custom CSS styles to tags!
