Delete on the Mac.

Delete on the Mac.
Currently, to delete a task on the Mac you have to use CTRL-DELETE which is clumsy and easy to forget.  If you do forget and use DELETE (Backspace on other platforms) it sends you god-knows-where.  A small point but a frequent irritation.  Any reason Backspace can't work the same way as Delete?
Thanks

  1. I'm on OS X 10.7.x and with a task selected the key marked 'delete X>' in the group of 9 above the 4 arrow keys (I have a full sized keyboard) does delete a task aok.

Some mapping perhaps added to our Mac env by an app? Maybe create a new account and login with Shift to extra ensure no apps load and a std setup then visit CheckVist and try again?

    Good luck.

  2. Unfortunately this is a known issue on compact Mac keyboards, where 'delete' button is actually 'Backspace'. And 'Backspace' has a special meaning on most browsers - Go Back to previous page (and we don't want to break this default behaviour).

That's why you should either press 'Fn' key together with 'delete' to get real 'Delete' command, or use Shift+Backspace (because pressing Shift is usually simpler than looking for Fn)

  3. :/ This is a good app http://www.molowa.com/mac-os-x/palua/palua-3-0/ but I checked and it looks like it can't make delete back into a proper delete. A shame.

  4. Hi Alan - I use a Macbook and it doesn't have that key, unfortunately. I do have a key mapping program that works - Keyboard Maestro http://www.keyboardmaestro.com/main/ - but it's overkill for this job.

Hi Kirill - I don't seem to have a backspace either.  Guess I'll just have to train myself to use Ctrl-Delete.  10 minutes a day...

    Thanks both

  5. :( that's a pain (I have never found myself properly fluent on a laptop keyboard and use a full size whenever I can). Good luck finding the fix (I know how frustrating not having a simple kbd shortcut is when you are using such a kbd driven fab app as CheckVist).

  6. I got so frustrated with this that I ended up installing the Backstop extension (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/backstop/pidcjgldchekcoolelhbjfbnccjkckfj) to prevent it from happening.

  7. That's a very good tip Rebecca.  I've taken an effective (but expensive) approach of getting a mac bluetooth keyboard and trackpad :-)

  8. I bothers me also very much.
At least it would help to 'disable' the Backspace key.
Here seams to be an easy solution for the problem: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1495219/how-can-i-prevent-the-backspace-key-from-navigating-back
